PHILADELPHIA, PA – Latonya Griffin, a 43-year-old Philadelphia resident, has been convicted for an assault that left a man severely injured.
The conviction, delivered by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Homicide and Non-Fatal Shootings Unit, follows an incident in the city’s Kensington district in the early hours of Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
The shooting took place on the 1800 block of Wishart Street. The reasons behind the violent incident remain unclear. Surveillance footage depicting the defendant arguing with the victim before shooting him in the abdomen played a critical role in the conviction. Assistant District Attorney Trey Flynn used these videos to dispute Griffin’s claim of self-defense.
Despite these findings, Griffin remains out of custody and on house arrest awaiting her sentencing, currently set for September 25th. District Attorney Larry Krasner and his team overcame the challenge of securing a conviction without the victim’s testimony and expressed gratitude to SEPTA for providing critical video evidence.
