GAITHERSBURG, MD – Jorge Rueda Landeros, the murder suspect who had been on the run for over a decade, has finally been extradited to Montgomery County.

Landeros was wanted in connection with the 2010 homicide of Sue Ann Marcum, a 52-year-old American University accounting professor.

Now 53-years-old, Landeros is accused of killing Marcum in her home on Massachusetts Avenue on Monday, October 25, 2010. The Medical Examiner determined Marcum’s cause of death to be blunt force trauma and asphyxiation.

Major Crimes Division detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police established that Landeros had a personal and financial relationship with Marcum and fled to Mexico or Central America after the homicide. Landeros was identified as a suspect through crime scene evidence on April 15, 2011, and an arrest warrant was obtained the next day.

In December 2022, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) – Baltimore Field Office received information that Landeros was likely residing in Guadalajara, Jalisco, working as a yoga instructor under the name Leon Ferrara. On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, an operation was coordinated with the Department of Justice, Legat, Mexico Task Force, and Jalisco State Police, successfully apprehending Landeros without incident.
