Suspects Arrested Following Bank Fraud Attempt in Newark

NEWARK, DE – On Wednesday, June 29, Newark Officers were alerted to an ongoing fraud at WSFS Bank, 201 Suburban Drive, Newark.

The fraudulent activity was suspected when a person opened an account on June 28, using another identity and tried to deposit a stolen check.

When he returned to the bank, the bank employees recognized the fraud and contacted the police. While the initial search didn’t locate the suspects, detectives successfully identified potential suspects using surveillance footage, police dashcam video, and other investigative techniques.

On Friday, officers stopped two vehicles carrying the three suspects: Gavrelle Amankwa, 21, of Bear, DE; Emmanuel Nkansah, 20, of Hyattsville, MD; and Karim Nebie, 24, of Newark, DE. Following an evidence search, all three were charged with Identity Theft, Attempted Theft $1500 or Greater, and Conspiracy Second Degree.
