TRENTON, NJ – The Mercer County Narcotics Task Force successfully concluded a two-month investigation into narcotics distribution in Trenton, New Jersey, and Bensalem, Pennsylvania. This operation resulted in the arrest of Akeem Smith, a 33-year-old resident of Trenton, on Tuesday, July 18.
The task force, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, and the police departments of Hamilton, Trenton, and Bensalem, executed a motor vehicle stop, leading to Smith’s apprehension.
During the arrest, law enforcement officers found approximately 25 grams of crack cocaine, six grams of powder cocaine, and $5,485 in cash on Smith’s person and in his white 2020 Hyundai Tuscon. Subsequently, a search of Smith’s residence in Trenton led to the discovery of approximately 30 pounds of marijuana, 80 decks of heroin, a Smith and Wesson .380 handgun, $8,375 in cash, and various drug-related paraphernalia.
As a result of the evidence collected, Smith faces narcotics and weapons charges in Trenton, NJ, as well as narcotics offenses in Bensalem, PA. He is currently detained at the Bucks County Correctional Facility in Pennsylvania, awaiting further court proceedings.
The Mercer County Prosecutor, Angelo J. Onofri, estimated that the combined street value of the seized narcotics is approximately $63,900.
