PATERSON, NJ – Two New Jersey residents, Jazyre K. Kearney, 21, from Paterson, and Tommy Norberto, 20, from Teaneck, have been recently apprehended in relation to a shooting incident dating back to May 22. The investigation was jointly conducted by the Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

On that Monday, the Paterson Police responded to a report of shots fired around 6:07 p.m. in the West Broadway and Matlock Street area. Officers found a 37-year-old Paterson woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Shortly thereafter, a 35-year-old man from East Orange arrived at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, also with a gunshot wound. Both victims were treated for non-fatal injuries.

Over the course of the investigation, Kearney and Norberto were identified as the culprits, and arrest warrants were subsequently issued. Norberto was apprehended first on May 26, near Prospect and Passaic Streets in Passaic.

Kearney, however, was arrested nearly two months later on Wednesday, during a vehicle stop on Madison Avenue and Broadway in Paterson. Upon arrest, Kearney was found to be in possession of an illegal firearm and had provided false identification.

Both individuals face charges, including attempted murder and unlawful possession of a handgun. Norberto also faces additional charges for possession of weapons as a prohibited person. Kearney faces additional charges of hindering apprehension. If convicted, each attempted murder charge could carry a sentence of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
