OCEAN COUNTY, NJ – The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Angel Garcia-Rodriguez, a 26-year-old Lakewood resident, has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident on Saturday.

The charges include Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash Resulting in Death and Endangering an Injured Victim.

According to the report, Lakewood Township Police Department officers responded to a severe crash scene near James Street around 2:25 am. They found a 2007 Honda Civic that had collided with a utility pole. The driver had fled the scene, leaving behind a critically injured male passenger who later succumbed to his injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

He was found at a Lakewood residence, taken into custody without incident, and transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus for a blood sample. Garcia-Rodriguez is currently held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
