Elkton Man Arrested for Weapon and Drug Possession in Newark Hotel

NEWARK, DE – Ryan McCool, 41, of Elkton, MD, was apprehended on Wednesday, by the Newark Police Department for possessing deadly weapons and drugs. At about 1:00 pm, officers were dispatched to a hotel on the 1100-block of South College Avenue to check on McCool’s welfare.

Upon contact, McCool initially provided a false name. Upon investigation, he was found with a knife, brass knuckles, a handgun, heroin, crack cocaine, and a prescription medication not prescribed to him.

The law prohibits McCool from possessing deadly weapons. Further investigation revealed that McCool’s vehicle, parked in the hotel’s parking lot, was displaying a license plate recently reported stolen to New Castle County Police.

The officers transported McCool to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited (2 counts), criminal impersonation, receiving stolen property under $1,500, possession of drugs (3 counts), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After appearing before Justice of the Peace Court #11 via video, McCool was held in default of $28,100 cash bail and transferred to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
