ERIE COUNTY, NY – On Friday, a jury convicted Jahquil Peterson, a 33-year-old man from Rochester, of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
The jury’s decision came after roughly three hours of deliberation following a two-day trial.
The incident, dating back to Saturday, April 24, 2021, began with a 911 call. The complainant reported witnessing a male point a gun at a female before both entered a vehicle. Buffalo Police initiated a traffic stop on West Chippewa Street near Washington Street, finding a handgun in the vehicle.
DNA analysis linked Peterson, who was seated in the back of the vehicle, to the handgun. The maximum sentence Peterson faces is 15 years.
He will be sentenced on Tuesday, September 5, and remains in custody without bail.
