BERGEN COUNTY, NJ – Mark Musella, Bergen County Prosecutor, announced the arrests of two men from Bronx, NY: Melvin R. Inoa and Nixon Francisco-Colon. They stand charged with armed robbery, weapon possession for unlawful purposes, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
On the evening of Saturday, February 11, the Bergenfield Police Department was alerted about an armed robbery at the Delta gas station on Washington Avenue. Reportedly, two men, one brandishing a firearm, demanded money from the gas station attendant, assaulted him with the weapon, and fled with about $3,000 in cash.
Following a five-month-long investigation, Inoa and Francisco-Colon were identified as suspects. Sunday saw the arrest of Francisco-Colon at Newark-Liberty International Airport as he alighted from a flight from Honduras. Subsequently, on Monday, BCPO detectives apprehended Inoa at his Bronx residence in collaboration with the FBI Safe Streets / Violent Crimes Task Force.
The accused have been charged with first-degree armed robbery, second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, second-degree possession of a firearm, and third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
While Francisco-Colon is currently detained at Bergen County Jail, awaiting his hearing in Hackensack, NJ, Inoa is held at the New York City Police Department Central Booking, pending extradition procedures.
