BRECKNOCK TOWNSHIP, PA – On Tuesday, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office approved charges filed by the Pennsylvania State Police in relation to the killing of 54-year-old Miguel Vazquez-Ruiz, which took place along Route 222 in the early morning of Monday, April 23.

The charges have been filed against Kevin S. Harmon, 35, of Gwynn Oak, MD, who is accused of fatally shooting Vazquez-Ruiz and leaving his body along the southbound lane near mile marker 48.6 of Route 222.

The charges against Harmon include single counts of criminal homicide, robbery, theft, carrying a firearm without a license, and possession of a weapon.

On that April morning, Pennsylvania State Police Troopers discovered Vazquez-Ruiz’s body with multiple gunshot wounds at around 7:07 am. The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office autopsy revealed the victim suffered five gunshot wounds, leading to the ruling of homicide as the cause of death.

Several pieces of evidence, including DNA, surveillance footage, interviews, search warrants, and cell phone data, implicated Harmon in the crime. These findings point towards Harmon’s financial struggles and his knowledge about the victim’s cash possession. Harmon’s home revealed 9mm ammunition, a magazine, and other firearm accessories. Harmon is currently considered innocent until proven guilty.
