New Jersey State Police Under Investigation Over Death of Prisoner

BRIDGETON, N.J. – The New Jersey State Police is under scrutiny after the death of a 30-year-old man following his arrest in Fairfield Township, Cumberland County, N.J., on Saturday, July 8.

Emergency medical services were called to the NJSP Bridgeton Station on the evening of the arrest after the man became unresponsive around 8 p.m. Troopers performed life-saving measures before the man was taken to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland.

He later passed away at 11:37 p.m. on Sunday, July 9.

The man, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

The Attorney General’s Office is conducting the investigation following Attorney General Directive 2019-4.
