NYC Man Charged after Leaving Pets in Hot Car at Casino Parking Garage

Atlantic City, NJ – A 53-year-old man from New York City is facing charges of third-degree animal cruelty after allegedly leaving a cat and dog in his car for several hours in an Atlantic City casino parking garage, according to officials.

Thomas Cabot, a resident of Brooklyn, was charged by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office following an incident on Thursday. A concerned passer-by noticed the animals inside a vehicle in a parking garage at Bally’s Atlantic City near the boardwalk and promptly called 911 at approximately 6 p.m.

The prosecutor’s office stated that Cabot had left the dog and cat in the car with the windows rolled up since early in the morning.

Authorities responded to the scene and removed both animals from the vehicle.

Officials noted that the pets did not have access to water throughout the entire day.

At the time the animals were discovered, the temperature in Atlantic City was around 82 degrees Fahrenheit at 6 p.m.

The day’s high reached 86 degrees, though temperatures inside a closed vehicle would likely have been significantly higher.
