PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – Following an exhaustive investigation, detectives from the Prince George’s County Police Department Financial Crimes Unit have arrested a man linked to two ‘pigeon drop’ scams. The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Keith Twiggs of Temple Hills, is believed to be involved in these deceptive acts.
A ‘pigeon drop’ scam is a con in which the victim is persuaded to put up a large sum of money as collateral in the hope of receiving a share of a larger sum.
Twiggs is charged in relation to two scams in the county this year. The first incident took place on June 26, in the 9000 block of Annapolis Road, while the second occurred on May 6, in the 6000 block of Oxon Hill Road. In both instances, the victims were elderly women.
At the time of Twiggs’ arrest on June 29, he was found in possession of approximately $21,000 in counterfeit cash and a wallet containing a note often found in such scams. A subsequent search of Twiggs’ residence yielded more evidence typically associated with these scams, including fraudulent letters and additional counterfeit money.
