NEW YORK, NY – An all-boys school in New York City, the Browning School, will now accept trans students who identify as male.

The school, which educates students from kindergarten to 12th grade and costs $62,500 per year, was founded in 1888 to educate the Rockefeller brothers. According to their website, the school will consider for admission any child who identifies as a boy or was assigned male at birth and is well-served by the school’s mission. The school notes that it celebrates and affirms boys at every stage of their lives and recognizes that gender can be lived and expressed in many different ways.

The school will not consider for admission a student who identifies as a girl at the time of application. The move has angered some parents, and a longtime member of the school’s board of trustees recently resigned, criticizing the school’s dysfunction and misfeasance.

This move comes amidst nationwide controversy regarding policies related to transgender students in schools.
