SILVER SPRING, MD – A Silver Spring resident experienced an exhilarating moment when they claimed a $50,000 prize on the $20 scratch-off game, $50,000 Cash. While thrilled with their win, the enthusiastic Maryland Lottery player plans to continue playing in hopes of a life-changing jackpot.
On the day of their fortunate win, the player was running errands and made stops at a laundromat and Safeway grocery store #4817 located at 116 University Boulevard West in Silver Spring. It was at the Safeway store where they purchased four scratch-off tickets and decided to start scratching them while waiting in line to complete their errands.
As they scratched away, they checked the winning numbers at the top of the play area: 43, 26, 32, 02, and 48. The player then proceeded to check the rest of the ticket, discovering that the first number in the last row matched one of their winning numbers: 43. With anticipation, they scratched to reveal the prize amount under that number: $50,000.
“That was a good morning!” the winner exclaimed while claiming their prize on July 7 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
With their winnings, the lucky player plans to provide financial assistance to their mother, father, and daughter, helping cover various expenses, including tuition for their daughter. They expect this generous act to deplete their funds until their next win.
As a result of selling the winning ticket, the Safeway store will receive a $500 bonus, equal to 1% of the prize.
The $50,000 Cash instant ticket was introduced in December 2022 and initially featured 160 top prizes. Currently, 102 top prizes remain unclaimed, along with other prizes ranging in value from $20 to $5,000.
