CAMDEN, NJ – It’s no secret that New Jersey Democrats want to make gun ownership in the Garden State illegal, if not nearly impossible. But one Democrat city official in South Jersey let us know what they’re really thinking.
Camden Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said after a mass shooting in Philadelphia that ‘gun bearing freaks’ are not wanted in New Jersey.
“We just wanna send a clear message to the thugs and criminals and gun-bearing freaks over in Philadelphia who live in a society of lawlessness. We don’t want you here. Stay out of Camden. Stay out of Camden County. Stay out of New Jersey,” he said this week.
New Jersey has some of the strictest gun laws in America, but those laws have not proven to keep illegal guns out of the hands of criminals in the state’s inner cities. Cities like Trenton, Newark, Paterson, Atlantic City and Camden are hot beds for illegal gun activity and violence.
Most of those crimes are committed in a black-on-black scenario and involve illegal guns, not legally authorized and permitted gun owners. They involve ghost guns, not legally purchased firearms, except fort the stolen ones or the ones brought in from out-of-state traffickers.
Maybe Cappelli’s words were ill-thought, and in the heat of the moment, or maybe he just said what most anti-gun Democrats in the Garden State are thinking.
