LIGONIER TOWNSHIP, PA – On Sunday, an officer-involved shooting resulted in the death of one individual in Ligonier Township. Ligonier Valley Police Department responded to a call regarding a domestic disturbance at a residence along Gravel Hill Road shortly before 4 p.m.
Upon arrival, police were confronted by 59-year-old Robbie Thomas Saunders. Saunders, wielding a machete, aggressively approached the officers from the front door of his house.
Saunders was shot once by police and was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No injuries were reported among the officers involved.
Pennsylvania State Police and Westmoreland County Detectives are currently investigating the incident. An autopsy for Saunders is scheduled for Monday.
