CENTER TOWNSHIP, PA – The Pennsylvania State Police Troop A Major Case Team recently announced they are conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday. At approximately 11:55 pm, a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Yankeetown Avenue and Lockard Avenue Extension.
Following an attempted stop, the male driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, led Troopers on a pursuit spanning several miles throughout Center Township and Homer City Borough. Despite the deployment of hollow spike strips in an attempt to stop the vehicle, the suspect continued to flee. During an encounter on SR 119 near Tide Road, the suspect was struck in an officer-involved shooting.
Despite medical assistance rendered by the Troopers, the suspect succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The investigation has resulted in the temporary closure of SR 119 near the incident location. Pending family notification, the identity of the suspect remains undisclosed. The Major Case Team, the Indiana County District Attorney’s Office, and the Indiana County Coroner’s Office continue their joint investigation into the incident.
