Gaithersburg, MD – A confrontation on Friday, June 30, resulted in multiple Montgomery County Police officers being assaulted, with two officers sustaining serious injuries during the incident.
At approximately 8:03 p.m., officers from the 6th District swiftly responded to a report of an individual causing a disturbance by spraying a fire extinguisher in the hallway of the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a victim who reported that the same suspect had forcibly entered her apartment. Responding officers conducted a thorough search of the area and ultimately located the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jermaine Palmer from Germantown, in the vicinity of Washington Grove Lane and Mineral Springs Drive. One of the officers approached Palmer, who suddenly struck the officer in the face, causing him to fall backward onto the pavement and strike his head, rendering him unconscious. The injured officer was immediately transported to a local hospital with serious, yet non-life-threatening injuries.
Palmer, taking advantage of the chaos, fled towards the Flower Hill Shopping Center. Multiple officers pursued Palmer and eventually confronted him at the McDonald’s establishment situated in the 18270 block of Flower Hill Way. However, Palmer vigorously resisted arrest, repeatedly assaulting several officers by punching them. Following a strenuous struggle, officers managed to apprehend Palmer and bring him into custody. Another officer was transported to an area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the arrest.
Following medical treatment at a local hospital, Palmer was subsequently transferred to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He now faces multiple charges, including assault, possession of controlled dangerous substances, and burglary. Palmer is currently being held without bond as the investigation unfolds.
The Montgomery County Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its officers and will continue to support the injured officers as they recover from their injuries.
Updates regarding the case will be provided as the investigation progresses.
