Middletown Resident Receives Life Imprisonment in Weapon Case

MIDDLETOWN, NY – On Monday, 36-year-old Wayne Lewis of Middletown was sentenced by Orange County Court to twelve years to life imprisonment. The sentencing is linked to his guilty plea of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

In court, Lewis confessed to trying to possess the loaded firearm used in a shooting on December 21, 2022. Surveillance video footage from Park Circle in Middletown shows Lewis and a co-defendant, where Lewis handed over a firearm to the co-defendant, who then shot another individual, causing non-fatal injuries.

In addition to the weapon-related charges, Lewis also received a concurrent nine-year prison term for pleading guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree. Lewis’ criminal history includes two prior violent felony convictions, leading to his categorization as a persistent violent felony offender and the possibility of life imprisonment.

The City of Middletown Police Department conducted the investigation leading to Lewis’s arrest, with assistance from the New York State Police and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
