In an odd twist, a woman from Forestville, Maryland, who won $50,000 in the June 23 midday Pick 5 drawing, credits another Pick 5 winner for her fortunate outcome.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, came across an article on the Maryland Lottery website about a Waldorf player who decided to play one of his Pick 5 number combinations after seeing variations of his numbers drawn.

Inspired by this story, the Prince George’s County resident began searching for patterns in the winning numbers. She noticed that the number 6 was the first digit drawn four times in Pick 5 drawings from June 5 to June 21. Taking an experimental approach, she modified her favorite number, which had been 56389, to 65389. She then placed a $1 straight bet for both the June 23 drawings, and to her astonishment, she won!

“I just started playing that number last week, and I couldn’t believe it,” expressed the grateful winner.

The federal government worker discovered her win while getting a manicure. As she checked her tickets on her phone, her emotional reaction caught the attention of her manicurist.

“My eyes started to water. I was shaking, and I couldn’t see,” recalled the winner.

Amidst the excitement, the winner accidentally dropped the ticket, but the kind manicurist picked it up and advised her to sign the back. Grateful for the assistance, she followed the suggestion.

The $50,000 prize will be used by the winner to pay off bills, providing a welcome financial relief. The District Heights 7-Eleven #29609, where the lucky ticket was sold at 7300 Marlboro Pike in Prince George’s County, will also celebrate the win. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery as a result of the fortunate sale.
