TOMS RIVER, NJ –
Since the beginning of June, there have been reports of a criminal group known as the “Felony Lane Gang” operating in central and northern New Jersey. This organized group specifically targets parking areas of public parks, gyms, and recreation areas for car burglaries. Here are some important points to be aware of regarding their activities:
The gang members often use rental cars with out-of-state license plates.
Originating from Florida, they travel up the eastern seaboard to commit these burglaries. Their main objective is to locate purses left in vehicles, as they are searching for bank checks, debit cards, and driver licenses. They then forge and pass the stolen checks at different banks using the stolen identification.
Typically, one member of the group is dropped off on foot in the targeted parking lot. This individual uses a spring-loaded center punch to quickly break the side windows of vehicles.
The drop vehicle, usually parked nearby, serves as a lookout and remains ready to flee if law enforcement arrives. The gang operates swiftly, often completing their activities within a few minutes before leaving the parking area.
Previous incidents involving this group have shown that they may be armed. Therefore, it is important for people who witness such activities to report them to the authorities and avoid approaching the individuals involved.
It is important to note that individuals should refrain from leaving valuables in their vehicles, especially in plain sight. Taking precautions such as securing personal belongings and parking in well-lit and monitored areas can help minimize the risk of falling victim to such crimes.
