SILVER SPRING, MD – A 61-year-old resident of Silver Spring had an exciting surprise when he checked his Bonus Match 5 tickets from the May 31 drawing. He discovered that he had matched all five numbers on the first line of his quick-pick ticket, resulting in a $50,000 win.
The fortunate turn of events began earlier in the day when he visited the Food Stop Mini Mart in Rockville, located at 4820 Boiling Brook Parkway. He engaged in friendly conversation with the store clerks, whom he is familiar with, bought a cold drink, and purchased a nine-line, one-draw quick-pick Bonus Match 5 ticket for the evening drawing. After his pleasant visit, the golf shop manager headed home.
Later that night, using the Maryland Lottery mobile app, the winner checked his ticket to see if he had matched any of the winning numbers. It appeared that his ticket was indeed a winner, but he wanted to confirm it on a larger screen.
“The very first line of my ticket matched the numbers drawn,” he recounted. “But the phone screen is so small. I had to take out my laptop to double-check and see the numbers on a bigger screen.”
He called his wife over to take a look, and initially, she thought the win was only for $500. However, when she realized it was a $50,000 prize, she made sure he signed the ticket, and he entrusted it to her for safekeeping, both of them smiling with joy.
The winner shared that he plans to allocate a portion of the prize towards college tuition and intends to save the rest.
