NEW CASTLE, DE – In the early hours of Wednesday, Delaware State Police apprehended a 15-year-old juvenile following a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. The incident began when a patrolling trooper identified a red Ford Edge that had previously been reported stolen by the Newtown Township Police Department in Pennsylvania on May 21, 2023.

When the trooper attempted to initiate a stop on I-295, the driver of the stolen vehicle ignored the officer’s signals and fled into New Jersey at a high rate of speed. In adherence to safety protocols, the trooper discontinued and stopped following the car.

At approximately 2:18 a.m., the same Ford Edge was spotted by another Delaware State trooper on New Castle Avenue near Hillview Avenue in New Castle. Upon the trooper’s attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver again accelerated away, leading police on a pursuit that ended when the Edge struck a chain fence and concrete barrier in front of Intercontinental Services of Delaware, located at 1020 Christiana Avenue.

Following the collision, two individuals exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. State troopers and assisting police units managed to locate and apprehend the 15-year-old driver a short time later. However, the second occupant of the stolen car remains at large.

The juvenile driver was taken into custody and subsequently transported to an area hospital due to injuries sustained during the crash.
