Memorial Day Shootings Erupt in Akron, Suspects in Custody

AKRON, OH – This past Memorial Day weekend was marked by a series of shootings in Akron. The Akron Police Department confirmed three separate incidents, one involving a teenager.

The first incident occurred on Friday when a 21-year-old man was shot at the Circle K on South Arlington Street. The victim, who suffered a non-life-threatening injury, was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital. Davin Proctor, 22, was arrested in connection with the incident, found possessing a loaded handgun on East Archwood Avenue.

Another incident took place on Monday night at Orrin Street and South Hawkins Avenue. An 18-year-old male arrived at the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center with gunshot wounds to his arm and chest. Simultaneously, the police were dealing with a large crowd at the scene. Demauri Dabney, 21, was found at the scene with an AR-15 style rifle within his reach. Following a brief evasion attempt, he was apprehended and officers discovered a second weapon and a loaded handgun in a vehicle nearby.

The third shooting unfolded early Tuesday morning at a residence on Fleming Drive. A 22-year-old male was found in critical condition with an abdominal gunshot wound and was swiftly transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.
