DAYTON, OH – The Dayton Police Department is actively investigating a rash of violence that occurred over the weekend, leading to injuries of six individuals in four separate shootings.
Detectives are piecing together details from four separate shooting incidents, three of which took place within a three-hour period on Sunday evening.
The ages of the shooting victims were between 15 and 21 years.
In a 911 call that has since been made public, an individual reported a barrage of gunfire, estimating “like 100 rounds” had been discharged.
The first shooting occurred at approximately 2:27 a.m. on Sunday in the 1200 block of Superior Avenue. Police responded to the scene and discovered a 16-year-old boy who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was swiftly transported to Miami Valley Hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities revealed that the teenager had been driving a black SUV, later determined to be stolen, with other juveniles inside. The SUV was found crashed into two other vehicles on Lexington Avenue near Catalpa Drive.
Later in the day, around 9 p.m., law enforcement received a call regarding another shooting incident at the intersection of Cedarhurst and Maplehurst avenues. Upon arrival, they found a 17-year-old boy with an apparent gunshot wound. He was immediately taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
Approximately two hours later, officers responded to two separate locations following reports of additional shootings. Two victims, a 17-year-old girl and a 21-year-old man, were transported to different places by private vehicles. One victim was taken to the Dayton Fire Station at 1723 W. Third St., while the second victim was taken to Kettering Health Dayton.
According to police, the 17-year-old girl and the 21-year-old man were attending a block party on Arlington Avenue when they were shot.
