FREEHOLD, NJ – A two-year probation sentence has been given to Scott Lifshitz, a 60-year-old Certified Public Accountant (CPA) from Brick Township, who admitted to stealing a significant amount from his previous employer. The sentence was handed down on Friday, by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Jill Grace O’Malley.
Lifshitz, formerly the Chief Financial Officer of a financial services technology firm in Matawan, pleaded guilty to second-degree Theft of Movable Property before Judge Richard W. English on February 10, 2023. An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed his criminal activity, which included unauthorized company checks and wire transfers into his personal accounts. The company reported the theft to the Prosecutor’s Office after terminating Lifshitz in September 2022.
Before his sentencing, Lifshitz repaid the full stolen amount of $833,000 to the company. As part of his role, Lifshitz oversaw the company’s financial operations and had access to all company bank accounts. The theft occurred over a period of approximately two years, from September 2020 through September 2022.
