Retired Baltimore grandfather wins $50k Pick 5 jackpot

BALTIMORE, MD – A Baltimore resident who enjoys playing the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game under the nickname “Homer Depot” was in for a treat recently when he won the $50,000 top prize in the May 5 evening drawing.

Lottery officials did not release his name.

According to the Maryland Lottery, the 67-year-old player who recently retired from the finance industry loves the Pick 5 game for both the payout and the winning potential. Alongside his wife, he plays the Lottery weekly and enjoys various games from scratch-offs like Frogger to Pick 5 and Mega Millions.

“Homer Depot” bought his winning Pick 5 ticket at Royal Farms #302 located at 6124 Edmonson Avenue in Catonsville. He placed a $1 straight bet on the number 21047 for the May 4-5 evening drawings. After checking his ticket and realizing Lottery luck had brought him a big win, “Homer Depot” quickly left the store to say a prayer of thanks and called his wife.

When asked about his plans for the winnings, the happy grandfather stated that he would save and invest the funds. More importantly, the winnings would enable him to financially help his adult kids and grandkids. He also plans to continue playing Lottery games, stating that “you don’t know what else is up the road.”

The Baltimore County store that sold the $50,000 winning Pick 5 ticket, Royal Farms #302, will receive a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, from the Lottery.
