Queens Woman Charged for 7-Year-Old Girl's Death After Failing to Stop at Stop Sign

QUEENS, NY – In the wake of a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a 7-year-old girl, Claudia Mendez-Vasquez has been arrested and charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide. The arrest was made on Tuesday, within the confines of the 105th precinct.

The incident leading to this charge occurred on February 17, 2023, when the police responded to a 911 call about a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. On arrival, officers found the young victim lying on the roadway, suffering from severe head trauma.

She was immediately transported to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst by an NYPD vehicle, but despite efforts, she was pronounced deceased.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad revealed that Mendez-Vasquez, who was operating a 2021 Ford Explorer, failed to stop at a stop sign, leading to the fatal accident.
