A new poll conducted by ABC News and The Washington Post has revealed that President Joe Biden is facing his lowest approval rating yet, and is trailing behind top Republican contenders in a potential 2024 matchup.

According to the poll, only 36 percent of Americans approve of the president, marking not only his career low, but also numerically the lowest on record for any first-term president a year and a half from the next presidential election.

The poll’s results come as a blow to the Biden administration, which has been working to advance its agenda in the face of a deeply divided political climate.

The president’s approval rating has been on a steady decline in recent months, with many Americans expressing dissatisfaction with his handling of issues like the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy, and immigration.

In addition to his low approval rating, the poll also found that President Biden is trailing behind top Republican contenders in a hypothetical 2024 matchup.

Former President Donald Trump led the pack with 47 percent support, followed by Vice President Mike Pence at 29 percent, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 25 percent.
