Officer-Involved Shooting in Vineland Under Investigation

VINELAND, NJ – Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae announced that the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving a 28-year-old male from Vineland.

On Friday, at approximately 11:18 a.m., a Vineland Police Department officer was dispatched to the 500 block of E. Birch Street for a call for service. The officer encountered a man armed with a large knife, who allegedly charged at the officer and a civilian victim on the scene, prompting the officer to shoot the subject twice with his service-issued firearm.

The victim was wounded by the subject during the altercation before the officer discharged his weapon.

The suspect was airlifted to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, where he is listed in stable condition. The wounded victim was also treated at Cooper Medical Center and released.

The male subject has been charged with criminal attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, and weapons-related offenses. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Unit, in accordance with New Jersey Attorney General Directive 2019-4.
