EVESHAM, NJ – Police in Evesham today said a couple trying to flee police tried to kill officers by running them over and ramming their vehicle into pursuing police cruisers.
The high-speed car chase in Evesham ended with the arrest of Marc Ferraiolo, 33, and his wife Ruth Patton, 42.
On Sunday, patrol officers were investigating a motor vehicle collision when they saw a white Hyundai Genesis traveling at an estimated 80mph in a 45mph zone. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Ferraiolo failed to pull over and ran a red light.
Despite the pursuit being terminated due to safety concerns, Ferraiolo was later identified, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
When officers went to serve the warrant at Ferraiolo’s residence, he was observed driving the same vehicle and pulling into his driveway.
Ferraiolo ignored commands to exit the vehicle, instead driving forward and quickly putting the car in reverse, almost hitting two officers. He then purposefully collided with a patrol vehicle and attempted to hit two officers with his car. Ferraiolo continued to drive across neighboring lawns, ramming his vehicle into a police vehicle with maximum force three more times before attempting to flee again.
During his escape, Ferraiolo struck several more patrol vehicles and a parked car before finally being disabled. Officers approached the vehicle and removed Ferraiolo, who was given medical attention at the scene and transported to a hospital for evaluation.
Ruth Patton interfered with the officers’ actions and threatened to kill them, resulting in her arrest.
Several officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident, and a police K9 named Tango was undergoing veterinarian care due to being in the vehicle during the impacts.
Ferraiolo is facing charges of attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated assault on police, eluding, criminal mischief, and injuring a police canine. Patton is facing charges of terroristic threats and obstruction of justice.
Both suspects have been lodged in Burlington County Jail.
