GAITHERSBURG, MD – A Gaithersburg man is celebrating after winning $100,000 in the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game. The 63-year-old, who had only recently started playing the lottery, purchased two tickets from a nearby 7-Eleven store after feeling lucky following an unexpected conversation with two visitors about the meaning of life.

The man, who chose his license plate number for both tickets, was still in disbelief when he checked the Maryland Lottery app on his phone the next morning and discovered that he had won. He immediately called his partner to verify the win.

“I still can’t believe it. We’re both still in shock,” he told lottery officials after claiming his prize at the Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on April 26.

The retailer who sold the winning tickets will also receive a bonus of $1,000. The 7-Eleven store, located at 8946 North Westland Drive in Gaithersburg, sold two winning tickets for the Pick 5 game, each worth $50,000.

The lucky winner has no immediate plans for his winnings but said he plans to continue playing the lottery.
