FELTON, DE – Steven M. Smith, 36, of Centreville, Maryland, has been recently charged by the Delaware State Police for the murder of Charles Kupidlowski, which occurred in March.
Smith awaited extradition from Maryland to Delaware. On March 16, 2023, troopers responded to a shooting on the 200 block of Reeves Crossing Road in Felton, where they found Charles Kupidlowski, 36, shot in his upper body.
He was later pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the Homicide Unit learned that Smith, who had an ongoing dispute with Kupidlowski, confronted him and shot him with a rifle before fleeing to his residence in Maryland.
Smith was taken into custody without incident by the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday, Smith was extradited to Delaware and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
He is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $2 million cash bond.
