Officer-Involved Shooting in Lumberton Leaves One Dead

LUMBERTON, NC – A domestic disturbance call led to an officer-involved shooting on Monday night in Lumberton, leaving one person dead. The incident occurred around 11:49 p.m. at 2009 East 5th Street. Upon arrival, officers found a man, now identified as 31-year-old Karl Jones, who was visibly upset. An altercation took place between Jones and the responding officers, resulting in one officer shooting Jones.

First aid was immediately administered to Jones, but he succumbed to his injuries. In accordance with protocol, the Lumberton Police Department has called in the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to handle the case. The officer who shot Jones has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure for the department.

Currently, there is no body camera footage or known video footage of the incident. However, there were several witnesses to the shooting, which happened inside the home. The investigation is in its early stages, and authorities are encouraging anyone with information on this shooting to contact the NCSBI.
