Man Arrested for Alleged Threats Made to Buffalo Student

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Police Department announced on Tuesday, that 68-year-old Michael Askew of Cheektowaga was arrested in relation to alleged threats made to a Buffalo Public Schools student.

The threats were made on a school bus on Thursday, at approximately 4:40 PM in the 300 block of Roehrer Avenue in the City of Buffalo.

Buffalo Police Threat Management Unit Detectives obtained an Extreme Risk Order of Protection, commonly referred to as a Red Flag, with a search provision granted by the Honorable Judge Carter. Threat Management Unit detectives and Buffalo Police SWAT conducted a search on the 1 block of Woodridge Avenue in Cheektowaga, NY. During the search, three legally owned handguns were seized under the Extreme Risk Order, and one illegal, non-SAFE Act compliant Smith & Wesson M&P15 rifle was also seized.

Mr. Askew was charged with three counts of NYS PL 260.10-1, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class A misdemeanor. He will face an additional charge in the Town of Cheektowaga for the rifle. The arrest was made without incident.
