Chicago Police issue carjacking red alert for multiple neighborboods

CHICAGO, IL – Multiple vehicles were carjacked at gunpoint in the areas of Near West, Town Hall, Lincoln Park and Rogers Park on Wednesday, leading police to issue a public safety warning.

Six carjackings were committed by a group of individuals suspected to be involved in each incident.

Police are warning residents of Chicago’s 12th, 19th, 20th, and 24th districts of a series of armed robberies and aggravated vehicular armed carjackings.

In each of the incidents, three to four African American men wearing dark clothing and face masks approached victims who were sitting in their cars, displayed handguns, and demanded their personal property and vehicles. One victim was shot at as they fled.

he crimes took place at various times in different locations between April 24 and 25. The offenders fled the scenes in a black sedan, a red KIA SUV, and a black Toyota SUV.
