One injured in fire where homemade fireworks were being made

WESTMINSTER, MD – A house fire in the 300 block of Parisian Way in Westminster is currently under investigation by Deputy State Fire Marshals, members of the Bomb Squad, and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). One individual was injured in the fire and subsequently flown to a medical facility by Maryland State Police – Aviation Command.

Initial reports revealed that the homeowner was making homemade fireworks before the fire started. He suffered serious burns and was flown to MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

The 68-year-old man’s condition at this time is unknown. Police have not yet stated whether charges have been filed. Bomb squad technicians found fireworks in multiple stages of construction in the garage where the fire started. They were all rendered inert.

The fire was contained to the garage of the home.

The Westminster Police Department, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and Westminster Fire Department are all involved in the ongoing investigation.
