BROOKLYN, NY – The New York Attorney General’s office is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting in New York City.

Two NYPD officers fatally shot a 78-year-old man during a reported burglary investigation at 330 Lewis Ave on Thursday.

The man allegedly pointed a firearm at the officers, who then discharged their weapons, striking him multiple times. The incident took place as officers in Brooklyn responded to a call on a burglary in progress at the address.

The caller stated that their elderly uncle was inside the apartment, saying that someone was trying to break in.

Upon entering the second-floor hallway of the building and approaching the apartment in question, officers were met by the 78-year-old man who partially opened the door while displaying a firearm in his left hand.

Police say the officers retreated into the hallway of the building, and the man walked out and pointed the firearm at the two officers, leading them to open fire.

The two police officers began CPR on the elderly male suspect until additional units arrived. Emergency medical units arrived and transported the man to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Both officers were also transported to a hospital for evaluation, though neither was struck by gunfire in the incident.
