Suspect charged for Adelphia murder cold case

ADELPHIA, MD – The Prince George’s County Police Department has charged a 34-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting in Adelphi that occurred in 2020. The suspect has been identified as Jose Linares of Alexandria, VA, and he is charged with the murder of 21-year-old Payton Marshall from Woodbridge, Virginia.

On September 7, 2020, the police were called to the 1800 block of Metzerott Road where they discovered the victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound, inside a parked vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other, but the motive for the shooting is still under investigation.

Linares has been charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as firearms offenses and additional charges. He is currently in custody in Fairfax County awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
