WILMINGTON, DE – A spate of carjackings plaguing the Wilmington area in the past 24 hours is being investigated by police.
The Delaware State Police are investigating a series of carjackings and attempted carjackings on April 14, 2023. The suspects, two unidentified black males, were operating a black Jeep in the north Wilmington area.
They intentionally rear-ended at least two vehicles to lure victims from their cars.
The first incident happened at around 6:43 a.m. at the intersection of Thompsons Bridge Road and Guyen Court Road. The suspects rear-ended a vehicle and fled the scene before the police arrived. The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The second incident occurred in Pennsylvania at around 7:10 a.m. The suspects rear-ended a female victim’s car, and one of them forced her into her car at gunpoint. They drove her back to Pennsylvania, where she was sexually assaulted. The victim managed to escape and call 911.
The suspects fled back to Delaware and met two other suspects in a convenience store parking lot. The police found the black Jeep parked next to a red Nissan Pathfinder. When officers tried to contact the occupants of the Jeep, the vehicle fled, and a brief pursuit followed.
At around 9:27 a.m., the same red Nissan Pathfinder rear-ended another vehicle near I-95 and Marsh Road. The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and fled the scene before the police arrived. The victim did not suffer any injuries.
A short time later, troopers spotted the red Pathfinder on I-95 southbound near Naaman’s Road. The suspects crashed into a Mercedes on I-95 South at Concord Pike, fled on foot, and were apprehended a short time later. The victim did not suffer any injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, and at least two suspects involved in the kidnapping and sexual assault remain at large. They were last seen operating a black Jeep, which is suspected of being stolen.
