Arrest made in fatal Manhattan pedestrian crash

NEW YORK, NY – After an ongoing investigation, 35-year-old Joshua Seals was arrested in connection with a motor vehicle collision on May 3, 2022, at the intersection of East 77th Street and First Avenue.

The incident resulted in the death of 66-year-old William Maeder, who was struck by Seals’ 2007 Toyota Tacoma while crossing East 77th Street.

Seals, who was driving the vehicle, was turning from First Avenue onto East 77th Street at the time of the collision.

Seals, a resident of Brooklyn, faces charges of Motor Vehicle Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian or Bicyclist – Injury and Failure to Exercise Due Care.

Seals remained at the scene after the incident, and the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad continued the investigation, which led to Seals’ arrest on Wednesday.

William Maeder, the deceased victim, was a resident of 360 East 72nd Street, New York, NY.

He was transported to Cornell Hospital after the collision with severe trauma to his body and face, where he was pronounced deceased on May 4, 2022.
