YORK COUNTY, PA – On Wednesday, at around 12:18 am, Northern York County Regional Police Department responded to a domestic-related incident in the 6000 block of Pamadeva Rd in Heidelberg Township, York County. Upon arrival, a NYCR Officer observed the suspect (38-year-old white male from Hanover, PA) fleeing the scene on a John Deere riding mower. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens.

The suspect fled into a field, where the riding mower became disabled, and began to flee on foot towards his residence. The officer gave verbal commands, but the suspect refused to comply. When the officer tried to take the suspect into custody, a physical struggle ensued, during which the suspect choked the officer. The officer then drew and fired his duty weapon once, striking the suspect in the neck.

Additional responding officers provided aid to the suspect, who was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital. The suspect remains in critical but stable condition. Charges are forthcoming for Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement. The York County District Attorney’s Office requested Pennsylvania State Police-York Criminal Investigation Unit to conduct the investigation, with assistance from Troop J Major Case Team.

The NYCR Officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative duty pending a review of the investigation by the York County District Attorney’s Office.
