SYRACUSE, NY – On March 23, 2023, Syracuse police responded to a ShotSpotter activation and arrested a 16-year-old male who was in possession of a loaded handgun. The male was walking with his left arm pressed against his body as if concealing something, and officers noticed a bulge in the front pocket of his sweatshirt.
A Ruger SR40 .40 caliber handgun was retrieved from the pocket, and the male was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a firearm.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence in our communities and the need for continued efforts to prevent the possession and use of illegal firearms.
