LAKEWOOD, NJ – Police in Lakewood have arrested 22-year-old Max Miliano Sanchez after he waved a machete in front of five people walking along Forest Avenue Monday night.
Lakewood Police Department Capt. Greg Staffordsmith said the incident happened at around 11:30 pm near Forest Avenue and 6th Street.
“Sanchez had approached five pedestrians along Forest Avenue while brandishing a machete,” Staffordsmith said. “Although no specific threats were made to any of the victims, his menacing behavior caused fear of eminent injury or harm to each of them.”
The five victims fled out of fear and contacted the police.
A person matching his description was located nearby, and he was detained. Police said he had the machete in his possession.
He is now facing nearly two dozen charges, including simple assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, threatening violence, and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Ocean County Jail awaiting a pre-trial hearing.
Police believe Sanchez may also be connected to other similar incidents in Lakewood over the past few months. The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be pending.
