Man struck with bottle inside Bronx deli needed over 40 stitches

NEW YORK, NY – A 35-year-old man is recovering after being struck in the face with a glass bottle resulting in a laceration that needed more than 40 stitches to repair.

According to detectives with the city’s 47th Precinct, the assault happened during an argument between two men inside the Gourmet Deli at 4402 White Plains Road in the Bronx.

The attack took place last Saturday, but police released video surveillance footage of the suspect today.

“An unidentified male approached a 35-year-old male victim, and after a verbal dispute, the male struck the victim in the face with a glass bottle,” the police reported this morning,” the NYPD said.

The victim was removed to St. Barnabas Hospital with severe injuries to his lip and cheek, requiring over 40 stiches. The male individual fled the location on foot, in an unknown direction.    

The suspect is still at large and police are asking the public to assist in making a positive identification of the man.
