Suspect in Midtown rape case arrested by NYPD

NEW YORK, NY – Police officers from the NYPD’s 20th Precinct have arrested a man wanted for a rape incident on Saturday in Midtown.

30-year-old Jamel McIver was arrested and charged with rape and robbery. McIver, a 121st Street resident was taken into custody on Sunday at 4 pm.

A 21-year-old woman was raped inside a building near West End Avenue and 65th Street on Saturday. Today, police released a photo of the suspect and are asking the public to help identify the alleged rapist.

The incident happened around 1:00 am when an unknown male suspect followed the woman inside the building. The man followed her into an elevator and then forced her out of the elevator into a nearby stairwell, where he raped her.

Afterward, the suspect forced the woman out of the building before fleeing.

She was treated for her injuries at a local hospital.

Ths suspect was described as a male, 5’8” in height, approximately 150 lbs., and believed to be in his 30’s. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, a gray sweatshirt, and black pants.
