Police in Delaware is investigating a series of hoax phone calls threatening violence at multiple Delaware schools last week.

Multiple incidents of threats of violence and false reports are under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Several telephone calls were received on Thursday regarding the threat of an active shooter at schools throughout the state of Delaware. Similar incidents have been reported outside of the State of Delaware as well.

Justin Hatchell, a spokesperson for the DSP said the calls have been determined to be a prank and a form of “swatting,” which occurs when a prank call is placed to emergency services to elicit a large police response at a particular address.

The DSP is working with allied law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate this incident, Hatchell said.

The Delaware State Police is still actively investigating this incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
