No foul play after woman found dead in Carlstadt motel

CARLSTADT, NJ – Investigators have determined that the death of a woman inside the Super 8 Motel on Washington Avenue in Carlstadt did not involve any suspected foul play.

On Friday, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit said their investigation of the suspicious death on Tuesday appears to not be criminal.

After receiving a 911 call regarding an unresponsive female in one of the motel’s guest rooms, police officers entered the room using a master key card and found 22-year-old Karol Mejia of West New York, NJ, deceased.

“An investigation into the cause and circumstances of the death is ongoing, but a preliminary investigation indicates the death does not appear to involve foul play,” Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said,

Police did not reveal the woman’s cause of death or release her identity to the press.
