22-year-old suspect arrested for the murder of James Shearer

COLUMBUS, OH – Police in Columbus have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of James Shearer on Saturday. According to police, Nicholas Kesterson was arrested and charged for the early morning shooting in the Milo-Grogan section of Columbus.

Police were dispatched after receiving multiple calls to report a shooting in the 1000 block of North 9th Street.

“Upon arrival, officers found James Shearer suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus Fire,” CPD officials said. “As officers arrived on the scene, a vehicle fled from the neighborhood but crashed moments later into several parked cars and a fire hydrant.”

Two occupants of the vehicle tried to run away but were taken into custody by officers.

Detectives identified the driver of the vehicle as Nicholas Kesterson, who shot the victim after the two were involved in an argument.
